About Hive Young Writers Fest 2019

“It’s an open door into anything a young writer could want: inspiration, how to develop, or move into a professional sphere – and a wonderful social event for those who don’t necessarily connect with other young writers regularly.”

Hive Young Writers Festival is a jam-packed day of word-based happenings for young & emerging writers from across the north [all are welcome!] on Saturday 13th April 2019. The festival is a chance to network, work with and get advice from professional writers, meet like-minded young writers, perform yourself & of course… write!

We’re talking 100+ young writers under one roof enjoying workshops, panel discussions & advice sessions with a wide range of writers, from novelists to poets, playwrights to industry professionals. There’ll also be a number of free one-to-one advice sessions you can book with professional writers on the day. Check the full programme here.

This year we are working with Sheffield Hallam University who are kindly hosting the festival in the wonderful Institute of Education – just a stone’s throw from the Sheffield train station.

Who is it for? Everyone is welcome, from fun hobby writers to serious career interests spanning all writing forms. The event is for young people of 14 to 25 years of age, with a smaller number of tickets for 25-30s. NEWSFLASH: Now SOLD OUT. If you missed getting your ticket & want to go on a waiting list, it’s possible dj rolex submariner 40mm mens 116610 black dial we’ll have cancelations or we might be able to accommodate some people from lunchtime. Email: info@hivesouthyorkshire

Workshops and talks will span everything from fiction and video game-writing, to performance and poetry, and advice from publishers and about careers. There’ll also be the chance to ask questions to a wide range of professionals in panel Q&As. Check out our list of writers & who’s who so far.

There’ll be bookstalls from Bluemoose Books, Dead Ink, And Other Stories, The Poetry Business, Longbarrow Press & possibly other publishers (& we hope some discounts so bring coins if you’re a bookworm!) Some writers may also be signing books on the day. You might also encounter roving Hive reporters and Write Radio from Sheffield Live recording some words on the fly! You can also take to the mic with your own words – be they sung, acted or spoken.

The cost of the whole day is just £10/£12. We have made the day as cheap as possible to support access and encourage young writers to travel from across the north. If you will still have difficulty affording this, or you have to pay a sizable train ticket as well, get in touch. It’s important to us that nobody who wants to come misses out.  Get a ticket herePlease note, last year, we sold out a week or so before the festival.
