Hive Poetry Collective is an online Sunday poetry workshop (every 3 weeks) for young and emerging poets aged 18 to 30 (or thereabouts!) from across South Yorkshire and the nearby north. We’re particularly keen to hear from those who feel that they don’t have this kind of opportunity nearby. We currently run online sessions only (which makes it easier for those in the nearby north to join us – get in touch if that’s you!)
Write poems, read poems, get ideas, build skills, learn from feedback, hear about opportunities and be inspired by others who buzz off the same language joys in a relaxed atmosphere. Be it hobby interest or you’re sending your work out or building a poetry manuscript, join us to stay in your creative groove.
Sessions are exercise/writing based (with occasional workshopping of individual poems) so great for young writers wanting to discover their voice, generate new work, experience more contemporary poetry, or build a portfolio or manuscript.
The group is run by widely published poet, editor & creative educator, Vicky Morris, and is open to all levels and interests. Vicky has mentored many young writers who’ve won accolades such as the: New Poets Prize, Foyle Young Poet of Year & the Young Northern Writers Award. A good few competition & award-winning poems have been written in this group too, including this gem from New Poets Prize winner 2020 Lauren Hollingsworth Smith.
Where: Zoom
When: currently 11am to 1pm on a Sunday (every 3 weeks)
Cost: 4 sessions £50 (contact re further concessions)
We’re particularly keen to hear from those who feel that they don’t have this kind of opportunity nearby.
Why so cheap? Sessions are subsidised to encourage younger emerging writers with limited finances and opportunities to attend.
