Hive Young Writers’ Day –
Performance Theatre with Khadijah Ibrahiim
A partnership event with Off the Shelf Festival of Words
When: Saturday 28th October 2017 – from 10.30 to 4.30pm
Write for performance and improve your confidence, stage presence, and delivery with poet and playwright Khadijah Ibrahiim. Khadijah combines art forms to re-imagine poetry as performance theatre. “One of Yorkshire’s most prolific poets.” (BBC). Her collections Rootz Runnin and Another Crossing are published by Peepal Tree Press.
No experience needed. Hive Writers’ Days are a chance for young people to develop their writing-related skills with professional support. Our days are open to young people 14 to 25 (more or less! if that’s not quite you but you’d like to come, get in touch with: [email protected])

Open to young people aged 14 – 25 years from across South YorkshireCost: £5 full day/£3 concessions (with refreshments but not lunch included).
Discounts: Hive is particularly keen to encourage young people who wouldn’t normally access this type of opportunity, and there are always discounts available for a number of tickets to support individuals who may be unable to pay in full, or to support travel costs within the region. More about Khadijah Ibrahiim
Khadijah Ibrahiim is artistic director of Leeds Young Authors and the producer of Leeds Youth poetry Slam festival. She has appeared alongside the likes of Linton Kwesi Johnson, Lemn Sissay and Benjamin Zephaniah. Khadijah Ibrahiim was born in Leeds of Jamaican parentage.
Educated at the University of Leeds, Khadijah has a BA Honours in Arabic and Middle Eastern studies and a MA in Theatre Studies. Her first collection, Rootz Runnin was published in 2008 by Peepal Tree Press. In the same year she toured the USA with the Fwords Creative Freedom writers. As a delegate for the Art Council England (Yorkshire) she attended Calabash International Literature Festival in Jamaica. She became one of the first international writers to attend the El Gouna Writers Residency in Egypt, 2010. Her second collection, Another Crossing, was published in 2014.
